When it comes to your work, nobody cares about your authenticity. There, I said it.
I really wanted to believe in the whole “bring your full, true self to your work” concept. But then I started thinking about the people I actually interact with in my own professional life. Do I really want to know that the graphic designer that is 2 days late on my client’s infographic is having a tough time with his body confidence ever since Adele lost all that weight? No. All I care about is that he’s 2 days late and my client’s emails are getting more and more arsey- you could say inversely proportional to Adele.
As a marketer, the ‘Jobs To Be Done’ framework taught me that nobody gives a shit about my product- they only care about the problems they want to solve. I believe the same concept applies to work relationships.
